In this strategic battle for Middle-earth, players assume the role of either the Fellowship or Sauron across three evolving chapters to decide the fate of the free races. Gameplay centers on drafting available cards from a structured display to build skills, gather treasure, and expand your presence, with the option to play cards for their unique benefits, discard them for currency, or secure Landmark tiles to establish strategic Fortresses. Victory is claimed immediately by fulfilling one of three conditions: completing the Quest of the Ring (reaching Mount Doom versus capturing Frodo and Sam), rallying six unique Race symbols, or dominating all seven regions of the board. Should the game reach the end of the third chapter without an instant win, the player with presence in the most regions is crowned the champion.
