Born in 1877, Tom Thomson spent his youth in Leith, Ontario, near Owen Sound. Both musically and artistically gifted, Thomson, jumped about from job to job during his 20s, until he began work as a draftsman at Grip Limited in Toronto, where he met several future members of the Group of Seven. Thus, with their influence and encouragement, in his thirties Thomson finally began his painting career. In 1912 Thomson travelled to Algonquin Park and fell deeply in love with the landscape - many of his most renown paintings are scenes from the park. Unfortunately, his career and life were short-lived when he disappeared during a canoe trip on Canoe Lake in 1917. In cooperation with the Art Gallery of Ontario we are pleased to provide you with 13 stunning paintings by Tom Thomson for your enjoyment throughout 2020.
