Product Information

Born in Montreal in 1881 Clarence Gagnon spent his early years in rural Quebec village. As a teen he studied with William Brymner at the Art Association of Montreal and thanks to the patronage of businessman James Morgan was able to study a the Academie Julian in Paris between 1904 and 1905. Despite this increasing worldliness, Gagnons heart and soul belonged entirely to the landscape of his youth, and despite spending many years, on and off, in Paris, his works almost exclusively focused on the scenery of the Laurentians north of Montreal, and also of his adopted adult home in the beautiful Charlevoix region of Eastern Quebec. In cooperation with the Art Gallery of Ontario we are pleased to provide you with 13 lovely paintings by Clarence Gagnon for your enjoyment throughout 2020.

In times of trouble the serenity of Gagnon’s probing expression of a life often either missed or unappreciated opens a pathway to clear reflection. This series of his art lead us through a year of seeking and realization of our transcendental essence. I am conflicted as to wrap it or keep it! The dilemma.
